No Longer Feeling Comcastic

We have been talking about it for a couple of months, and putting it off for just as long. Today Em called Comcast and cancelled our service.
In October, we were looking at our bill and noticed that the bill for our cable had nearly DOUBLED! We had set up automatic bill-pay so we wouldnt have to worry about it, which only made it less painful when the rate went through the roof. Keep in mind that we had only the most basic channels they offer + a DVR. When I opened the account they specified that the $44 per month was the continual price, not some introductory offer. Now we were paying $78... Ummmmm, hello? We dont watch $78 worth of TV per month. So, in our continual effort to save money, we dropped Comcast today and signed up for a free month subscription of Netflix... $9.99 Per month. In addition to the DVDs they will mail to us, we can stream unlimited movies/tv shows through our Wii. We will give it a go, and I will let you know how it goes.

We've been talking about the same thing, actually. We recently canceled our Netflix because we never really watched the movies. If we cancel our DirectTv, we'll probably try out Hulu Plus so we can still catch the shows we like on TV just via the internet. Good luck! :)

Honestly, we haven't had cable in almost 5 years now and I can't say that our lives are anything but better for it. Now when we catch some tube at a friend's house, it's very obvious how toxic even the commercials are for our mental health and for the kids, especially. You won't regret your choice much, I'm sure.

Well, here is the funny part. We removed the box yesterday and just plugged the cable from the wall into our TV... there are a ton of free channels here. And when we looked at the available shows/movies we could stream with the Wii, there are literally hundreds of options. Makes me mad we paid as much as we did for as long as we have. We won't be without mind-numbing entertainment, that's for sure.

Good idea! Somedays I am ready to just throw the TV out the window altogether, but with so many options, there is really no reason to pay that much for just basic channels.
