Waterlogged

We have always wanted to have our own swimming pool when we own a house, and yesterday we got our wish. Emily had started some laundry and went to the grocery store to pick up some things for dinner. She returned home to find water pouring out the front door of our apartment... turns out the drainage hose came off the washer, and it just kept on filling. Emily was only gone for about 30 minutes or so, but you would be surprised how much water a washer can put out in a half hour. Em called me, and I was just finishing up at school for the day, so I hurried home. As a reformed cusser, it took a lot of deep breathing and teeth clenching to hold back the profanities that jumped to my mind. Within about 30 minutes a guy was here to help us move furniture and stack everything on the few dry areas so he could get to work. He cut and rolled back the carpet and took out the wet under-padding. He then used a huge vacuum to suck the water out of the carpet and left us with some floor fans and a big dehumidifier. We had a voucher for a free night's stay at the Sheraton hotel, so we left for the night. I would have posted this last night, but they actually charge $10 a day if you want internet access... seriously, what hotel charges for online access? We also had a gift card to Red Lobster that a friend (thanks Mallory) had given us a week ago, so we at least ended the night on a positive note...we love crab! We came home today to find that the dehumidifier quit working sometime after we left, so it was about 10 times more humid in the house as it is outside. The carpet guy is bringing a new one by in a little while, and we are getting the carpet taken care of on Friday... on the bright side, we needed our carpet cleaned anyway. We found that we weren't nearly as mad about the whole thing as we should have been. We are at least lucky that it isn't our washer, thus it isn't our fault/problem/bill to pay. We do feel bad though, because the water went into the neighbors apartment too. We are hoping not to run into him any time soon. Here is a video I took while the carpet guy was out getting his shop vacuum... sorry it's so shaky. I just keep telling myself "It could have been a lot worse".
